Below are some examples of AI statements that you can include in your syllabus and/or Orientation module. I recommend adding it to the Academic honesty/integrity section.

Example 1

(Shared by Angel Fuentes, Dean of BWF)

The World Economic Forum defines generative AI as “a category of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms that generate new outputs based on the data they have been trained on. Unlike traditional AI systems that are designed to recognize patterns and make predictions, generative AI creates new content in the form of images, text, audio, and more.”
Some examples of generative AI tools include but are not limited to: ChatGPT, Google Bard, Microsoft Copilot, Stable Diffusion, GrammarlyGo, and Adobe Firefly. (Thanks to our B&W Dean, Angel Fuentes for sharing with us)

(Then, pick one of these)

No Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Allowed
In this class, all work submitted must be your own. The use of generative AI tools will be considered academic misconduct and will be treated as such. If you are unsure if the tool or website you are using is a generative AI tool, please contact the instructor for further clarification before using the tool or website.

Some Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Allowed in Specific Circumstances
There are situations and contexts within this course where you may be permitted to use generative AI tools. In these cases, specific guidelines will be provided in the assignment details. If you are unsure if the tool or website you are using is a generative AI tool or if it is permitted on a specific assignment, please contact the instructor for further clarification before submitting your work.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Allowed in All Contexts
In this class, you are permitted to use generative AI tools to complete your assignments. When submitting work that incorporates generative AI content, please clearly indicate what content was generated by AI tools. In such cases, no more than XX% of your work should be generated by a generative AI tool. If any part of this is confusing or uncertain, please reach out to me for a conversation before submitting your work.

Example 2

(Shared by Renee Albrech, EDIT Associate Faculty)

This is an interactive Video policy created using Studio and Playposit in collaboration with faculty taking our EDIT 25 course. It includes knowledge checks along the way and a policy acknowledgment at the end. This video is posted separately in the canvas page. (Thanks to our B&W faculty, Renee Albrecht for sharing with us)

Example 3

(Shared by Tejal Naik, Faculty DE coordinator)

This is an example of how I modified my existing Academic integrity statement to include AI for my Math and Statistics class.

To succeed and attain a firm understanding of the course content, you must do your own work. When you log in to Canvas, you do so with the understanding and agreement to complete the course activities including exams, tests, and quizzes yourself. Allowing someone else to complete your online coursework or copying from online sources such as Chegg, and Photomath, Wolfram Alpha is considered cheating. The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) software has created even more temptation for students to shortchange themselves by submitting work that is not their own. I consider using or copying from ChatGPT, Grammerly, Microsoft Copilot, Google Bard, and other online AI tools to be cheating. Violations such as cheating, and plagiarism will result in disciplinary action which may include a recommendation for dismissal. For more information, review the Standards for Student Conduct in the EVC college catalog.
